Storytelling : The dog and me or The dog and I ?

This blog is for you if you find yourself hesitant to speak or being told off for not speaking " proper English".

Imagine you are telling a story to a friend and you say, "the dog and me". Your friend stops you and says, you mean "the dog and I". Does it frustrate you and does it even matter?

The majority of my work is in oral storytelling and I often find that people may have an impactful message in a story, but are fearful or hesitant to speak because of criticism over minor grammar. Fussing over grammar to a degree where it needs to sound just how it should be written, but the message of the story is lost, is a waste of time.

Written English is different to Spoken English. Andrea S Calude gives great insights into this age-old argument between written and spoken languages in this 4 min 39 sec video.
