If the topic you are talking about is digital disruption and you start by stating what is already known to the audience ie " Digital is changing the way we work and live", this start guarantees only one thing - you will be ignored.
How about you make it personal, tell a story which makes a point that digital is changing the way we work and live.
Here is how I recently recommended a client to start her presentation on Digital Disruption with a story.
"I want to start off today by taking you through my morning before I arrived in the office.I woke up around 6 AM this morning just in time to have a chat with my son who lives in United States. So, my 6 AM is his 6 PM. I used Skype/ Facetime to call him. I then bought a book that I have been meaning to read from Amazon and used Paypal for the payment. I then asked Amazon Alexa to read me the news headlines. I then got ready, ordered a Grab ( private car service in SE Asia) and got to the office. On my way up to the office, I bought a coffee from a café downstairs and paid using Pay Wave.In just under 2 hours, I have used Skype, Amazon shopping , Amazon Alexa, Grab, Paypal and Paywave.'
This start has ticked all the boxes, it has created a personal connection, the story has made the point , we have engaged the audience and most importantly, via the story, the audience has felt digital disruption versus just understanding it.
Storytelling makes the most mundane message magical.
